This page will document the visual evolution of the film, from the images that have inspired the story, through the development, design, selection and fabrication of the props and decor, the storyboards, costume tests, camera tests, hair and make-up tests: All the threads we will weave together to make TRAUMA.
Moodboards:
A little visual reference for one of the key moments of the film, put together by myself and my retouch-wizard brother Jean-Michel Massey
Moodboard: Shot Composition
The black and white images are photographs by Aleksandr Rodchenko, and were the original visual inspiration for TRAUMA. Each shot in the film will feature these dramatic angles and strong geometrical composition.
Moodboard: Colours
The colour palatte will be inspired by posters such as these, although we will avoid using red, to avoid the strong political connotations of the colour.
Moodboard: Industry
Choice of location will be essential for setting the mood of the film, but also in providing the background structures that will help us create the 'Rodchenko look'.
Moodboard: Casting
The cast, particularly the workers in the factory will be selected with a rugged soviet aesthetic in mind; men and women of different ethnicities who each radiate health and strength.
